Folks, that was an incredible storm yesterday as the cold arctic air clashed with the warm tropical air up in the atmosphere at about 10K feet which caused severe weather. There were numerous tornadoes in the area, tremendous cloud to ground lightening, hail, downpours and tropical force wind gusts of 40-55mph range for the area.

COLD Turkey week
Yes, I said weeks ago to my close circle of weenies, EJ, Bach, Lyncher, Zungol, Guerci that this was likely and it looks to be coming to fruition as per the latest few days of model runs. Maybe some flakes to the coast at the end of next week. Temps will be below normal and the coldest days will be at the end of next week – Turkey Day and Friday.

PATTERN CHANGE?
We’ll we are heading towards the coldest and shortest sunlight days of the year. The wavelengths are shortening which leads to impulses that do not need a lot of energy to make them produce a storm. It look to be an up and down as we transition with moderate days to colder days every 3 days – colder 3 days and warm up for 2 days or 3 and then colder again. BUT the models are hinting at the North Atlantic Oscillation going Negative which would help slow up storms and lock in the proverbial trough as shown in the map below. The blue is the Low Pressure trough = cold, Orangey colors east of Greenland are what is called the Greenland block or Negative NAO (-NAO).
2 week animated map – look at the blues go to orangy red at the SE shore of Greenland = cold and storms – SNOWISH look – especially interior = NW NJ and ski resorts!! SKIERS REJOINCE – if it comes true!
Winter Predictions – forecasts:
They are reasonable at this time for snow and cold lovers overall for the 1st half of winter – Dec through Mid-February. If this happens then we cannot complain.
BUILD THE IGLOO OVER HEAD (OH CANADA!) AND IT WILL COME!!

Larry Cosgrove
Just had a Winter Forecast presentation from Larry Cosgrove and very interesting.
He metrics for his forecast are MJO, ENSO, SUN Flares, Analog years that best match up with these. These are the maps he shared – I ran the meeting so I have these maps to share.
Overview
He thinks Dec is cold for the most part and chances of snow maybe a decent size storm.
January thinks we have a thaw and then we plunge deep into winter with one two possibly two big storms as the PV elongates. Thinks it will last through Midish February then the SE Ridge starts to erode teh cold as the wavelengths change. March is a typical March month temps up and down but not much precipitation.

WORLDWIDE EXTREME WEATHER
Folks, the Grand Solar minimum which we have entered is wreaking havoc on weather patterns – like yesterday’s storms, Ida’s remnants. Last February in the region, the cold snap in Texas, the list goes on n on peeps. Australia is going to be some 20-35 degrees below normal in mid spring – remind me of us last May 2020 when it snowed/wintry precipitation not once but 4 different times from May 9-10th!!
