Weekend weather
This weekend looks to be good overall. Temps in the low 80’s and skies will have clouds and sun on Friday (more cloudiness towards CNJ and SNJ) and Saturday with showers at night and clearing skies Sunday morning. Next round of rain is Tuesday. As I said earlier this summer and keep reiterating that it was going to be a wet and cool overall summer with very few 90-degree days. That has been the case and it will through the end of this month.

Daylight diminishes
Wow you know summer is slowly then rapidly coming to end when you hit the double-digit days of August!! The sunset is now sub 8PM and sunrise is inching towards 6AM for us in the NNJ, NYC, LHV region. The shadows are getting longer and the cucumber plants and zucchini squash plants are starting to whither.
El Niño
Calls for a strong to super El Niño – the area of the Pacific Ocean that literally controls all of Central and North America’s weather patterns hence weather is coming back after an unprecedented 3 years of La Nina – cooling waters at the subsurface and surface of the equatorial Pacific Ocean between Western Coast of South America and East coast of Australia. I do not see a Super Niño as some fear mongered and were hoping for but a moderate El Nino is definitely in the cards. Where this warm blob of water sets up will determine our weather pattern for the fall and subsequent winter. Yes, this far out we are looking at indicators, always looking, for this upcoming winter season. You ask why, I ask back…. WHY THE HELL NOT!?? I know the snow royalty on this blog will concur!
The latest outlook on El Niño gives a >95% chance that it will continue through winter, with a ~66% that it peaks in strength as a “strong” El Niño event.

Hcane Season has been an absoluet dud but NOAA saying it will pick up and they will make it happen, you watch them name storms that have no merrit to be named to fullfill their prediction and agenda

Weather is wildly becoming more extreme and we are setting new records each and everyday worldwide it seems. From Hail, to Hail Stone sizes, to floods, to cold, to heat and everything in between – what is actually in between??? Ice, sleet, winds, fog etc. Again, it will lonely get worse as will the uptick and strength of Shakers (earthquakes) and Puffers (Volcanoes).

Lastly…..
SIGNS OF A BIG WINTER AHEAD?
Too soon? Maybe.. but the thrill of putting a good long range forecast together starts in Aug.
3 main areas of focus that are very encouraging for a snow/cold loaded east-coast winter.
1. High latitude blocking features showing in AUG and persisting into the fall months
2. Warm water w/ emphasis of warm depth over Nino region 3.4.
3. Lower pressures over north Pacific/ NE USA/ Euro
When you check the consistency boxes for the above and you can extrapolate it into seasonal forecast models ahead (below) .. one has to wonder if we are setting up for a big year ahead.
Losing the 3-year #Lanina will surely help.. but note the 500mb pressures for all of summer below! If that stays in place going into winter.. WATCH OUT!
