As I write my house is getting pounded by wind driven sleet and snow 1-3″ per hour rates.
I have about 9-10″ on the ground with a few more hours to go.
So I along with others will be BUSTING AGAIN – mother nature hasn’t been so kind lately so what can you do – less to shovel I guess. But enjoy the beauty of her fury I say. Thundersnow in the hinterlands of Sussex and Warren County with puking snow – snowfall rates this morning here in H’dale of 3″ per hour – this was insane to see. IF she doesn’t tick west then MOMMA MIA we get 20″ easily.
So what happened? STELLLLLAAAAAA decided to move more west than east – very uncommon for a coastal storm to do but nothing is common these days. A 50 mile jog west has allowed not only a war tongue of air to enter into our snow domain but also bring us a dry slot where to our east and west they will have precip but we will have nada in the coming hours aorund mid/ afternoon.
Coastal flooding and beach erosion moderate from reports.
Travel still terrible to impossible in NNJ.
So the Blizzard of 2017 fizzled in the sense of snow amounts for this region.
This is the 4th year in a row we have had a Blizzard in this area (NYC Metro, NNJ)- an amazing run!!! (NEMO 2014, JUNO 2015, 2016, STELLA 2017!)
I know, we have lost trust and faith is the meteorologists and weather community. All I can say we will try to do better next time around and learn from our mistakes.
HRRR by the hour – see how we go from 20″ to 12″ in 4 hours amazing. Just wish it were the other way!

As I finish writing I am in death band of sleet and snow now just unbelievable snow/sleet rates of 3-4″ per hour with wind gusts around 40mph (38 and 42mph to be exact!)
Looking ahead, like #1 from Monster INC – I have my eye on yuo, we have 3 other threats before Ol’ man winter goes away and behind this storm we have cold arctic air. ShShould have been in February peeps not now but I blame those who love warmth in teh winter – he will find a way to bit you in the arse!! Ol’ Man Winter that is!!
