Cinco De Drinko, May Outlook = Depends this week, Recap
Peeps,
It has been a month plus since I last wrote and it was pretty uneventful from my viewpoint. As I said it would be cold and we recorded a very cold month. Look at these temperature departures from normal in this beautifully shaded map:
Here is the country
Here is our area: 4 to 6 degrees below normal – WOWZA!!
Two Monday’s ago in the morning, the final day of April, snow was recorded in Mahwah. There was measurable snow of a coating at High Point Monument Park – the highest elevation in NJ and Saranac Lake, NY had 5″ of SNOW!!!
Cinco de Drinko – what?
I have to give this credit where it is due to my very amusing youngest son Matthew who came up with this last night. I then chimed in that intoxicated people on this day are then Cinco de Drunko’s? Anyway a great day and folks have no idea about the history behind this day – is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. Now I think back to my grandfathers time of the early 1900’s (born in 1904) and he celebrated a few holidays since there weren’t all these we have today – Memorial Day, Veterans Day,Presidents Days, Cinco de Mayo, Labor Day, MLK day, Arbor Day. Interesting thought here.
Back to the weather: May Outlook
= This week LOL!!
May looks to be above normal temperature wise overall with a very wet spring week upcoming- temps around 70 and showers and t-storms threat each day. The heatwave we had was s snap back in the atmosphere to the cold regime we had. Big Momma likes to try to even things out and she will do so. After this week it looks to be some warm days leading up to Memorial Day Weekend. It looks as though for this summer this may not be the case for heat and humidity with about a dozen 90* days overall, much less than the 2-3 dozen we have experienced greatly the last number of summers around here. So again May will look to be very wet this week and after this week warmth may build in. Something to note, a wet spring usually equates to a normal to below normal temperature pattern for Summer.

Needless to say it was a LONNNNNNNGGGGGGGG winter!!
And the American Model (GFS) says this for Memorial Day Weekend. REALLY??? It was upgraded to cut this out in the long range with these ghost tropical systems but obviously it hasn’t been corrected. Or at least we say so? One things is for sure is that the Southeast and Gulf need to watch for tropical development in late May.
Oh and Next Winter – WTH?????? Yes folks this is why you joined here LOL – we can see what is called a Modoki El Nino (weak) forming with low solar and major volcanic activity = ???? An interesting winter that will most likely feature above Normal Snow for teh area once again. Temperatures cant say at this time but can see teh analogs incoming for this upcoming winter – 2014-15 is one that comes to mind.
Anyway get out the depends for this week stretch of time and to all the Mom’s – have a wonderful Mothers Day!
Here is a great quote – “Mother’s hold their children’s hands for awhile but their hearts forever!!
Updates to come.
